A Smithville man faces domestic assault and vandalism charges after allegedly hitting his mother. 29-year-old Justin Matthew Cripps faces a $12,500 bond. Fentress County Taking Applications For Sheriff

Fentress County Commissioners voted Monday to officially declare the seat of sheriff vacant. Former sheriff Chucky Cravens resigned last month amid an FBI investigation. A few weeks after his resignation he pleaded guilty to federal charges after investigators found that he had sex with at least three female inmates. 2 Upper Cumberland Counties Have Clean Audit Reports

Only two Upper Cumberland counties received clean audit reports from the state Comptroller’s office. In a written release, State Comptroller Justin Wilson said only 12 counties statewide achieved clean audits for fiscal year 2016. A single vehicle crash claimed the life of a McMinnville man Saturday. The accident happened on Highway 70 east in DeKalb County. Authorities have identified the deceased as 45-year-old Larry Jones.
