Former Jackson County Business Owner Indicted

The Jackson County Grand Jury indicted Jamie Shortt on multiple charges this week.

Shortt was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department following the indictment.

Shortt is the former owner of Crabby J’s on Highway 56.

The sheriff’s department and Gainesboro Police began investigating after a fire  in February 2016 and a burglary in 2016, both at the business. Law enforcement believes Shortt sold restaurant equipment belonging to the building owner, as well as outbuildings belonging to a rental company.

He’s charged with two counts of insurance fraud of $10,000 to $60,000, 5 counts of forgery, 5 counts of passing a forged instrument, theft of property $2,500 to $10,000, theft of property $1,000 to $2,500.
