The Gordonsville Tigers defeated visiting Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central 41-32 Friday night to advance to the second round of playoffs.
The Tigers secured the first-round win firing on all cylinders, never trailing throughout the game. The defense secured two interceptions, one from senior Koby Watts and another from senior Tyler Peyatt. The defense also held HR-CH to only 24 yards passing.
Senior running back for HR-CH Zayveon Johnson carried the offensive load, carrying the ball 39 times for 308 yards and collecting four touchdowns.
Gordonsville sophomores Braxton Givens and Adam Goolsby had big nights as well. Givens ran 25 times for 183 yards and three touchdowns. Goolsby threw 8-12 and totaled 151 yards passing with three touchdowns. Goolsby also went a perfect 5-5 passing in the second half.
Senior receiver Jay Vaden was Goolsby’s main target. Vaden had 5 catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns, including a touchdown in the final seconds to give Gordonsville a two-possession lead. Senior Mitchell Kirby also had one catch for a 13-yard touchdown.
Gordonsville will travel to Waynesboro, TN next Friday to face the undefeated Wayne County Wildcats in the second round of the division 1 class 1A playoffs.
