Sparta officials have reopened the Carter Street Park after some renovations were made and a new bridge built.
The foot bridge connects the park to the other side of a creek. Eventually, that will be expanded and a complete walking trail done, City Manager Chris Dorsey said.
“The other part of the bridge we’ll probably begin work on after the new fiscal year, to have the trail keep going around the perimeter of the cemetery and end on Church Street,” Dorsey said.
Dorsey said the playground’s wooden equipment is unique and officials wanted to keep it, so some renovations were completed while the park was closed for the bridge work.
“So we went through, perfect time while the park was closed our public works crew did a great job of rebuilding that playground using as much of the original material as we could, but mainly all the posts that put into the ground were replaced,” he said.
The Carter Street Park is located on Bockman Way and is open during daylight hours.
